How it works
Equal mode applies tax and tip separately to the entered subtotal, rounds each charge to cents, and divides the total with any extra cents assigned one by one. Itemized mode sums each person’s rows; tax and tip are calculated on the full subtotal and allocated in proportion to each person’s item subtotal. The displayed shares always add up to the displayed total.
Worked example
A $100.00 subtotal with 7% tax and 18% tip becomes $125.00; two people pay $62.50 each. If tax or tip is already included in that $100.00, set the included rate to 0% instead.
Before you use the result
- Rates apply to the subtotal, not to a tax-inclusive amount.
- A shared dish needs separate rows for each guest’s portion. A row belongs to one person.
- The tool cannot account for discounts, service charges, or differing tax rates automatically; adjust the entered subtotal or compare with the receipt.
